Hi John, thanks for filling in. This story is however not about Bhutan so I would like to not deviate to not miss the point. We live surrounded by concepts that are human creations and we seem to forget that we can change them. We get attached to them as if they were universal truths. What serves us for a certain period of time no longer serves and that requires us to be aware to develop new models that serve us best. GDP is the one concept I am focusing on this piece, but yes, humans are prisoners of their mental creations. I am glad Bhutan proposed an alternative, and it called the attention of the UN to create its report. I am glad Kate Raworth wrote the Doughnut Economy and I hope more economists propose new models. More importantly, I hope we humans recognize the mental models that we have created and allowed to dictate our lives. Through that, I hope we gain awareness of when they no longer serves us and that we have the power to detach from them and create new ones so we can keep growing on and on.
