I couldn't agree more. Self-soothing is often escapism. It is nice to go to a massage and feel great for a few hours, but after a few days get back to hating my job again. Self-care requires me to stop and recognize that something is not ok and then do something about it. We live in a society of bread & wine, of course, since self-soothing is "easier" (pretty much instant gratification) and charged by many different industries trying to seduce me with their marketing. Self-care requires getting out of autopilot, and question what I need, deeply.
